Event Navigation
We’ll be exploring “why, what, where and how” to plant trees with a specific focus on the River Culm catchment, which is a priority area for tackling water quality through tree planting.
Register here.
Our speakers include:
- Jon Burgess (Forestry Commission Local Partnership Advisor)
- Chris Sorenson (Forestry Commission Woodland Resilience Officer)
- Karl Forte(Forestry Commission Woodland Officer for East Devon and Exmoor)
- Rosie Cotgreave, (Devon Wildlife Trust, Saving Devon’s Treescapes Project Officer)
Topics covered will include:
- How trees can help address climate change and biodiversity loss, including through carbon sequestration and flood and drought risk reduction.
- Where to plant, using the Right Tree Right Place principle and what this means for historic features and wildflower meadows.
- How the Forestry Commission is planning woodlands that are resilient to climate change, which species are recommended for different conditions.
- How woodland creation and maintenance grants work and how to apply for them.
- Community tree-planting, seed-gathering and the Saving Devon’s Treescapes project.
We’ll also be looking at how the Connecting the Culm Catchment Model can be used to calculate the impact of tree-planting on flood and drought levels under different climate change scenarios.
Followed by questions, a discussion session, and a meeting of the Connecting the Culm Nature-Based Solutions Working Group.
