Embrace the darkness – an evening of astronomical adventure

It is important that we protect areas of relative darkness and reduce light pollution where possible so we can enjoy the beauty of our night skies into the future. What is more, light pollution impacts on wildlife, interrupting natural rhythms including migration, reproduction and feeding patterns. Light spilling up into the night sky is also a waste of money and energy.

This September, we’ll be celebrating the beauty of Blackdown Hills’ night skies with A night with the stars.

Step inside Space Odyssey’s mobile planetarium for a breath-taking immersive experience with local astronomer Simon Ould.

Join ESERO-UK Space Ambassador Jo Richardson from Space Detectives to learn about Tim Peake’s mission and life on board the International Space Station.

There’ll be interactive space-related activities, an exhibition of astro-photography, a chance to look through a real astronomical telescope or even travel to virtual-reality space!

Last but by no means least we’ll step outside to appreciate the wonderful night sky we can see in the Blackdown Hills AONB, thanks to low levels of light pollution.
