The National Trust and Westcountry Rivers Trust are working together to start the process of enhancing nature in the floodplain from Ellerhayes Bridge to Columbjohn. The National Trust team at Killerton have partnered with Westcountry Rivers Trust to increase the value for nature of the area surrounding the River Culm and the health of the river itself. The vision covers the area from Ellerhayes Bridge to Columbjohn Bridge. This is a long-term ambition and we intend to give nature a helping hand when and where appropriate.

The intention is for a planning application to be submitted this spring for creating areas that hold water and stay wet for more of the year (scrapes). Other works will increase natural habitats (trees, species-rich grassland, scrub) and overall biodiversity of the site, encouraging mammals, fish, birds and bats to thrive.

This webinar will look at the history of the Culm in this area, share the rationale behind the current 50-year vision and explain phase one of the works planned in the next 12 months. Presentations from independent specialists, National Trust, Westcountry Rivers Trust and the Connecting the Culm Project will be followed by a question and answer session.

This project is funded by the government’s Green Recovery Challenge Fund. The fund is being delivered by The National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with Natural England and the Environment Agency.
