Join us for a cup of tea and a talk by archaeologist Dr Chris Smart from the University of Exeter. He will be presenting the latest information on Hemyock’s early medieval iron industry at 4pm in the Forbes room, Hemyock Parish Hall.

Come along early to join in with the Archaeological Finds Day in the main hall from 2pm.

  • Bring along artefacts to be identified by finds specialist Dr Naomi Payne and Finds Liaison Officer Brittany Walsh.
  • Drop in to learn about archaeology in the Blackdown Hills. Handle historic artefacts and test your knowledge with our archaeological finds quiz.
  • Join Alex Farnell from Avalon Planning & Heritage to get tips about researching your local historic landscape using the Historic Environment Record and the Devon Environment viewer.
  • Have a go at free family activities including a mini-excavation, making an Iron Age round house to take home or create a coil pot using clay.
