A group of people wading in a stream with buckets examining the water.

Vicky Whitworth, co-chair of Friends of the River Axe, joins Chardstock Eco Group to tell the story of the River Axe, why the river ended up in a bad way, and how the people of the place are drawing inspiration from nature to make things better.

Along the way you’ll hear about the Axe Maiden, her friends, the dastardly villains and the heroes who are saving the day.  It is a tale of hope in which you too can slay the dragon.

Vicky – born and bred in East Devon – fell in love with the brooks and streams as a child fishing for minnows in the River Otter. Latterly she has become a local community organiser standing up for the Axe Rivers, and echoing the words of The Lorax … I speak for the rivers, for the rivers have no tongues.

Free, including refreshments. Donations welcome.
