Event Navigation

A singing walk at the serenely beautiful Otterhead Lakes. You don’t need to be an accomplished vocalist to join in – novices very welcome. Choir leader, Claire Stronach, will lead simple songs and rounds as we explore and discover the history of this enchanting nature reserve. Stroll and sing or simply enjoy the melodies and scenery.
We’ll start with a song at the coach house then take a short walk to admire the grounds and learn a little about the history of Otterhead Lakes. The impromptu choir will then continue its melodic meander through the nature reserve and alongside the lakes returning to the coach house for a final song and refreshments at around 3.30pm.
Birds including coot, mallard, teal, great-crested grebe, kingfisher and greater spotted woodpeckers, make their homes in and around the lakes. In the surrounding grassland and woodland a variety of trees and wildflowers can be found, including an beautiful display of bluebells in late spring.
Please wear sturdy footwear.
The walk is mainly on countryside pathways which are a little uneven and can be muddy. The paths are not wheelchair accessible. There is a relatively sleep slope of 250m from the carpark to the boathouse. The full walk is a little under 1 mile (1.5km).
If you don’t feel able to walk the full route, you are welcome to make your own way back to the coach house for refreshments. If you are a wheelchair user or have limited mobility, you could enjoy the singing at the start and end of the walk, near the boat house. Please contact us for details.
Basic compost toilet with steps.
Strictly no dogs (except assistance dogs) during the singing walk, due to the proximity to ground-nesting birds and the nature of the activity.
