Somerset Otter Group

Come along to Blackdown Hills AONB’s otter surveying training and learn how to spot signs of otters along the river bank. Somerset Otter Group will give a short talk on survey techniques and how you can get involved in regular and annual surveys. This will be followed by a walk and survey demonstration to put your new skills into practice.

Can you help? At the training day we will be recruiting volunteers to help survey all of the Blackdown Hills AONB river catchments as part of the Somerset Otter Group’s annual two-day survey taking place on 28 and 29 April 2018. This involves visiting pre-selected sites along the river whilst observing signs of otter and recording what you find. It is a simple survey that takes approximately two hours each day, more details will be provided as part of the otter survey training day. After the two-day survey, we hope volunteers will continue regular monthly surveys in the following areas: River Yarty, River Culm, River Otter, and River Axe.

This free event is organised as part of the Culm Community Crayfish Project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
